One of the key post-event activities in the 15th IIGW 2026 is a field trip to the Ijen area, combining an industrial visit to PLTP Medco Ijen with direct exploration of the Ijen Geopark and its surrounding volcanic attractions. Scheduled for July 16th–19th, 2026, this program is designed to provide participants with both technical exposure to geothermal operations and broader insight into the geological and tourism significance of the Ijen region.
The program includes a site visit to the geothermal power plant, where participants will observe selected facilities and gain a practical overview of geothermal field development, plant operations, and related infrastructure. In addition to the technical visit, participants will explore key destinations in the Ijen area, including Kawah Wurung and Kawah Ijen, which offer valuable perspectives on active volcanism, volcanic landscapes, and the relationship between geothermal resources and geotourism.
Through this field trip, participants are expected to develop a more integrated understanding of how geothermal energy, geological heritage, and tourism potential coexist within the same region. The program also offers an opportunity to reflect on how such natural and industrial assets can contribute to educational value, public awareness, and local economic activities in a sustainable manner.
